Balance sheet climate neutral through CO2 compensation
As part of the SCHÜTTE Group, WASSERWERK operates on a carbon-neutral basis through CO2 compensation. In order to achieve this, all CO2 emissions that cannot yet be avoided at our company site in Wallenhorst despite all efforts are fully compensated for by the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates. The offsetting climate protection certificates come from the climate protection project "Asahan 1 Hydroelectric Power Plant" in Indonesia. The climate protection project we support complies with the conditions of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which was developed within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol. Further information on the SCHÜTTE Group's commitment to climate protection can also be found on the company page at Fokus Zukunft.
The determination of our greenhouse gas balance was carried out together with Fokus Zukunft GmbH & Co. KG. The calculation of CO2 emissions was based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG), which covers all greenhouse gases regulated under the Kyoto Protocol.
Photovoltaic systems for energy generation
Right from the start of our WASSERWERK production, a large part of the energy required has been generated by our own photovoltaic systems on the roof of the factory. This saves a large amount of fossil fuels and ensures that every WASSERWERK faucet is manufactured in the most eco-friendly way possible.
Heat pump for environmentally friendly heating
In line with our own energy production, our WASSERWERK factory relies on an eco-friendly heat pump to heat the offices and the production itself. In this way, we are not only independent of fossil fuels for heating, we can also cover a large part of the electrical energy used for this purpose through our own energy generation.
Eco-friendly packaging
Each WASSERWERK faucet is shipped in eco-friendly packaging, which consists of only natural and renewable raw materials. The faucet itself is protected by a cotton bag, which allows us to completely eliminate plastic from the packaging.
The 5R Principle
We are guided by the 5R principle: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot. This means that unnecessary packaging is avoided, the really necessary packaging is reduced as much as possible and, if possible, designed so that it can be reused. The use of recyclable raw materials is taken for granted and wherever possible we use compostable materials.
Climate neutral transport
The transport of our WASSERWERK faucets is climate neutral thanks to our shipping partner. This means that the emissions caused by any kind of transportation are fully compensated by CO2 offsets. The calculation of greenhouse gas emissions per package is carried out in accordance with DIN EN 16258:2012 (method for calculating and declaring energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for transport services).
Small details for big results
In addition, we implement many small projects that sustainably improve our environmental balance. For example, we rely on electrically powered company cars that can be charged at the company HQ with the solar power we produce ourselves. A new waste concept, in which we only collect paper waste in the offices, saves hundreds of plastic bags every month and, of course, this website is powered 100% by green electricity from renewable energy sources.
Still not ready
Although we have already taken many steps into the right direction, we are fully aware that there are still things that can be improved and that we will improve in the future. We'd like to invite you to walk this path together with us.
With a faucet from WASSERWERK, you too can do your part to make the world a more sustainable place.
